Tom Jonard's Writing Pages

I've been writing for a long time.

I wrote essays for Philosophy in college.  I wrote sermons in seminary.

I  wrote Proposals and Requests for Proposals, Documentation, Training Manuals, Presentations and Plans for my job.  Still I didn't think of myself as a writer.

In the Summer of 2000 at the suggestion of a psychologist I was seeing I began to write a journal.  It was difficult at first but soon the words seemed to flow from somewhere inside onto the pages.  As page after page came the fog that had engulfed my life retreated and I came to see more clearly the outlines of my self.

It seemed natural after a point to start writing the story of my life.  I've been doing genealogy for a number of years and been struck by the many people in my ancestry for whom I know only when they were born and died.  The details of their lives are lost with the exception of a few tantalizing clues.  How sad.  I would like my children and my grandchildren to know more of me and so I started to write about my life.

And I began to think of myself as a writer.  I don't plan to post my biography here (I sense your relief) but to encourage others to do as I have done.

Actually a lot of writing is going into the pages of this website, so browse around.
