20. William BARNES was born in 1815 in Pennsylvania.⁽⁸¹⁾⁽⁵²⁾ He was a Shoemaker in 1860 in Washington Co., OH.⁽⁵²⁾ He appeared on the census in 1860 in Washington Co., OH.⁽⁵²⁾ He served in the military in 1865 in Civil War.⁽⁸²⁾⁽⁸³⁾ He was married to Harriet ALGEO on Jun 30 1857 in Jefferson Co., OH.⁽⁸⁴⁾

21. Harriet ALGEO was born on Oct 29 1829 in Springfield Twp., Harrison Co., OH.⁽⁸¹⁾⁽⁵²⁾⁽⁸⁵⁾ She died between 1880 and 1900.⁽⁸⁶⁾⁽⁵³⁾ Harriet appearently died between the 1880 Census and when Michael Duclos died in 1900. Goldie Ethel BARNES recorded that Harriet ALGEO was her grandmother. The following marriages are recorded in Jefferson Co, OH according to Marriage Recods of Jefferson County compiled by Leila S. Franey: Harriet ALGEO and William BAIRD, Harriet BAIRD and William BARNES (Barry) and Michael DUCLOS and Harriet BARNES. An 1860 Census record has the BARNES family living in Washington Co. An 1880 Census record has the DUCLOS family with John and William BARNES as step-sons. So it is clear that Harriet BARNES and Harriet DUCLOS are the same person. There was only one other Harriet ALGEO recorded in the censuses of the time -- the wife of James ALGEO. The fact that our Harriet passed on her pre-marriage name to her first son probably means that it was also her maiden name. Therefore it also seems that Harriet BAIRD and Harriet BARNES were one and the same.

Harriet moved back to Jefferson Co. between marriages. I am guessing that this was to live with her parents. The only ALGEOs of sufficient age to be these are John and Eliza who appear only in the 1830 and 1860 Censuses. The ALGEO family believe Harriet to be the daughter of John (the Tanner) and Eliza ALGEO. William BARNES and Michael DUCLOS were shoemakers, a profession dependant on tanning. Could Harriet have met her husbands through professional circles in which they and her father circulated? Children were:

i. Eliza Jennie BARNES⁽⁸⁷⁾ was born on Mar 30 1858 in Kilgore, Carroll Co., OH.⁽⁸⁸⁾ ⁽⁸⁹⁾ She died on Oct 27 1941.⁽⁹⁰⁾ She was also known as Jennie.⁽²⁾
10 ii. John Algeo BARNES.
iii. William BARNES was born about 1863.⁽⁵³⁾ He appeared on the census in 1880 in Harrison Co., OH.⁽⁵³⁾
